In March-June, the “Let`s Do It, Romania!” team has developed the second edition of “Let’s Do It, Danube!”, created with the aim to educate the Romanian citizens and help them be more responsible towards water cleaning and especially the Danube, the most important river in the country. The campaign implied both an educational component and 2 cleanup actions organized in all Danubian counties.
The ecologic educational campaign in the schools of the Danubian counties has involved 10 389 pupils in interactive trainings held by the local “Let’s Do It, Romania!” teams and by projecting the film caravan “Danube, Europe`s Amazon”. The pupils learned what a responsible behavior towards the environment means and what are the things that they can do daily to protect the planet and reduce pollution, receiving at the same time information about the Danube and the species that live there. The top 3 counties are Constanta (2258 pupils involved), Giurgiu (1819 pupils involved) and Tulcea (1245 pupils involved). The educational campaign continued with the creative contest “The Danube`s Explorers”, where the pupils shared their stories about the Danube. 1011 works have been submitted in the competition which selected 31 winners and awarded 3 most engaged schools.
“We are happy to see so many pupils and teachers interested in the actions we organize with “Let`s Do It, Romania!”. We discovered openness and a strong desire to take care of the environment, young people who understand what means being respectful with the nature and regarding the resources of the planet. An important objective of “Let`s Do It, Romania!” is to contribute to the educations of Romanians regarding the environment and the involvement of the pupils and young people is our way to build a responsible and active generation. We give thanks to all the teachers that supported the actions and to our partners, the Ministry of the Environment, Waters and Forests and Kaufland Romania.” said Andrei Coșuleanu, Executive Director “Let’s Do It, Romania!”.
Also, part of “Let’s Do It, Danube!” were 2 cleanup actions of the Danube`s shores: the first one was organized on March 21st, celebrating Water`s Day, dedicated to pupils and the second one, on June 27th, celebrating Danube`s Day. 9042 volunteers participated in the 2 cleanup actions, where 12 500 garbage bags have been collected.
“We are thrilled to be a partner in this unique, successful and important project for Romania. Many thanks to all the volunteers who participated in „Let’s Do It, Danube!”, for contributing to a more beautiful, a cleaner and a responsible Romania.” said Anna Katharina Scheidereiter, CSR responsible Kaufland Romania.
The campaigh will end with a camp organized in August in the Danube Delta, where 20 pupils and 7 teachers will take part in educational activities regarding the environment.
The counties involved this year in the cleanup day were Caraș – Severin, Mehedinți, Dolj, Olt, Teleorman, Giurgiu, Călărași, Ialomița, Brăila, Galați, Tulcea and Constanța.
